Dirk & Bolivar, yours hosts in Quito

Dirk & Bolivar, owners of “Old Town Quito Suites” – boutique apartments in Quito – are insiders in the vast offer of things to do and experience in Quito. Follow their blog and go prepared to discover this marvelous country.

Read their guide on the best things to do in Mindo, Ecuador. Experience the cloud forest, do bird watching, hike along the waterfalls, take a ride by cable car, admire butterflies & orchids, taste chocolate, coffee or do adventure activities, and all this only 2 hours traveling from the capital Quito.

As a last-minute decision to take a break in our daily activities, we asked a taxi driver to bring us there, known as a little paradise for nature lovers.

Entering the city it started raining, so we decided not to make our search for a place to sleep to difficult and stayed at the first lodge we encountered: Casa de Cecilia
A little river crosses de property and predominates other sounds, what maybe is a plus for some…

Especially during weekends, they got the visit of a lot of Ecuadorians to enjoy some days off.
We stayed from Sunday evening to Wednesday and loved the tranquility and didn´t have to line up for anything.

Activities, a guide to Mindo

The Orchids garden, a lady who loves her collection of more than 200 varieties will guide you through this amazing miracle of nature.

We tried a few restaurants and loved the food. There are also several great coffee shops. Here you should just relax and enjoy it!

  • El Cheff, with a specialty: Lomo a la piedra
  • Archy Picantería, a chef from the coast region with excellent seafood dishes
  • Don Cangrejo, where we had a tasty lobster!

You can indulge yourself here if you like sports. We were here to relax and limited ourselves to:

Tarabita Cable Car, to go hiking in the woods and see the six waterfalls.

We almost decided to do some horseback riding, which has been recommended to us but because of the rain, we didn´t.
To get back to Quito we just took the bus “Flor de Valle” and discovered that the turnings felt less than with a small car.

Here some more pictures, enjoy.

Bird watching, you don´t have to go far, they are everywhere. We spotted even a Condor circling around above the woods.
